Reed Exhibitions Debacle

Reed Exhibitions sponsors of the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show scheduled for 2-10 February in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, announced that they would not allow AR-15 style firearms to be displayed at the show.  The fallout from this decision is that a number of companies and celebrities have chosen to boycott the show.  Even the NRA has expressed their intention to withdraw from the show.  This is the position that Reed Exhibitions gave, “Clearly, we strongly support the Second Amendment. However, this year we have made the decision not to include certain products that in the current climate may attract negative attention that would distract from the strong focus on hunting and fishing at this family-oriented event and possibly disrupt the broader positive experience of our guests.”

Ironically Reed Exhibitions, an international company based in the United Kingdom, is the same company that NSSF uses to manage SHOT Show, which wrapped up last week  NSSF says they are considering all options for future SHOT shows.  At SHOT you could find just about every firearm and firearm related products (ARs and high capacity magazines included) you can think of.

LSSA does not endorse the boycott of gun shows.  However, in light of all that is going on with gun rights, gun-control and the freedoms of law abiding citizens with respect to ownership of firearms, LSSA strongly supports those who are willing to stand up for their beliefs.   We believe that it is the right of folks in the hunting and shooting industry to express their distaste for the actions of Reed Exhibitions by withdrawing their participation in the sponsored event.  The following growing list of nearly 200 companies and celebrities have withdrawn from the event:
